From Haikus to Hula-hoops

Hi, Families!

You would not know that this was a short week for the students based on the amount of learning that we accomplished!

In Literacy, we have begun working on the Japanese poetry form, Haiku.  Students will be using the writing process to create Haikus about peace and remembrance and we are currently in the Pre-Writing stage, ready to begin Drafting our poems next week.

We are reading Harry Potter aloud, in class, and will be connecting it to our Literacy and Social Studies curriculum.   Please ask your child what is happening in the novel as re-telling is a great literacy skill to work on at home!

The students used Google to sort rock "samples" into the correct types.  Many students have been bringing rock samples in to share and this has added to our study.  We are also continuing our learning about the world as we identify (and understand the difference among) continents, countries, provinces, and cities.  It is great to talk at home about where in the world your family is and the places where you all may have been.

In music class, students explored the Blues (which also connected to our color theory work in art) and gym class went a little "old-school" with the hula-hoop this week.

All in all - a busy four day week!

Mrs. P and Mrs. V
