Almost there...June 18 - 22, 2018

Dear Cranston Families,

This is almost the last blog post of this school year.  Below is the week in preview.

1.  Learning Commons - If you find any books, particularly library books that belong to Cranston School, please have your child return them to the school as soon as possible.  Mrs. Aris will be working on invoices to send home for all books not returned this week.

2.  Calgary Public Library - A librarian from the Shawnessy Library will be visiting our school on Tuesday June 19th to introduce the Summer Reading Program run by CPL for the summer months.  Signing up to participate in this program (it is free) is a good way to continue to encourage your child to read over the summer months.

3.  Science Projects - Please help your child collect all the materials he/she will need to build his/her project.  Materials should be sent to school on Monday.  Three afternoons of class time will be devoted to the creation of these projects.

4.  Friday June 22, 2018 - Please review Mrs. V's email/blog post from Friday last week as she described the Celebration of Foods planned for Friday.  If your child has food allergies or sensitivities please contact Mrs. Vandertoorn as soon as possible.

5.  Wednesday June 20, 2018 - Champions' Club Field trip (bike, skate, scooter) to the Cranston splash park.  Please be sure that if your child is going on this field trip that he/she has all the gear necessary for a successful morning.

6.  Thursday June 21, 2018 - "Wonder" all grade three students will be watching the movie "Wonder".  This is our wrap up to having read the novel as a read aloud novel study.  Rich discussion around being different, acceptance and learning to work together are three of the themes we've explored and discussed as we read our way through the novel.  This movie is rated PG 13.  If you do not want your child to watch the movie on Thursday afternoon, please contact Mrs. V or Ms. P to make other arrangements.

7.  Clubs - Our last club day will be on Tuesday June 26th in the afternoon.  Our Fridays were just too busy this month!

8.  Sports Day - Our Annual end of year Sports Day will be on Monday June 25th.  Please watch for more information as it comes available.

9.  Report Cards and Last Day of School - Wednesday June 27th  is the students' last day of school.  It is a full day with dismissal being at 2:30 p.m.  Report Cards will be sent home this day.  Students will need to bring a re-useable grocery bag (or 2) to cart home all their school work...there's lots on Tuesday June 26th.

10.  Holidays - If you are leaving on holidays early and your child won't be in attendance to pick up his/her report card, please send in a stamped self-addressed envelope (a brown business envelope works best) to the office and a copy of the report card will be mailed to you after the 27th.

Have a great week everyone!

Ms Patton and Mrs. Vandertoorn
