Busy Week in Room 75!

Hello, families!

Wow!  What a busy week in room 75!  The children and Ms. Patton have been so welcoming to me and we have had a great start to our new team teaching arrangement.  Today was our first Club Friday and the students came back from their different clubs bursting with energy from their learning.  Clubs are also a terrific chance to build our school community as each club includes students from all the grades and different classes.

We started using the computers in class this week and each student will be coming home with a card that has their Mathletics, Raz-Kids, and Google logins.  Using Google as more than just a search engine (we will be using Docs and Slides this year) is new to many of our students so please feel free to practice logging in at home.

Mathletics and Raz-Kids are two more ways to extend the learning beyond the classroom and the kids enjoy these programs.

We are continuing our study of Rocks and Minerals.  If you ask your child about the three types of rocks (Igneous, Sedimentary, and Metamorphic) they should be able to explain how they are formed. Next week will begin sorting rocks into the different types.  If you have rock samples at home that your child would like to share, children are welcome to bring them to school.  Please don't send anything valuable.

Literacy this week focused on reading to make connections.  When you are reading at home be sure to pause and talk about personal ways that you and your child connect to the text.  Social Studies has found us looking at the earth, continents and oceans.  Ask your child to name the continents!  And our art explorations this week have focused on color theory, looking at sunflower studies from Van Gogh and Monet.

Have a great long weekend!  Classes resume Tuesday with Ms. Patton and I will see the students on Wednesday.

Mrs. V
