Bringing the United Nations to Grade Three!

As many of you heard at Student Led Conferences, last week, on Thursday afternoon, we had our first "virtual" guest speaker.  The grade three's gathered in the library to speak with Ms. Neelam Melwani, Second Secretary, Africa, with the Permanent Mission of the Netherlands to the United Nations in New York.  Neelam joined us via video link from her office at the United Nations and spoke with the students about the role and organization of the United Nations, as well as some of the global issues that the UN is currently addressing.  It was an incredible learning opportunity and the children were clearly engaged.  They asked thoughtful questions and, hopefully, learned a lot.  In particular, Ms. Brett's class and our class found themselves inspired to try and become change makers in the area of water scarcity and global access to clean drinking water.  We are excited to see how the students decide to take action!
